749RS Frame

It really exists. After seeing many kit 749Rs, I heard rumours of a 749RS frame, or at least one marked as an RS.

Here it is. I will post more photos when I have time, but this is the best evidence yet of a real RS. As you can see, the designation is stamped professionally and deeply into the headstock. The frame has been heavily powdercoated and will need to be stripped to reveal the frame number on the other side of the tube. Ducati stamp their numbers onto a flattened part of the tube. If we find a number, we will be in contact with the factory to find out more.

There are no visible differences between this frame and a 'standard' R frame other than the designation on the headstock. 998RS frames were built with a lighter, stronger tubing. It will be interesting to compare this frame with the weight of a 'standard' R frame.

The frame is on a bike that was built by the GSE team around one of their 999RS motors. It can be traced right back to Ducati Corse, but it's likely to have had some history before then as a race frame or even just an unused spare.

It is certainly an R, having the two footrest hangar mountings.
